This book is so on my favorites list, even though it isn't really my type. So it's about this 16 year old boy named Steve Harmon and he's black. He is on trial for a murder he didn't commit. These are notes for a movie he hopes he will one day make. So because these are notes for a movie, it's got all these phrases like FADE IN:, (voice over), and MS.. So sometimes it's actually not like that and it's just scribbly writing like this:
" The best time to cry is at night, when the lights are out and someone is being beaten up and screaming for help. That way, even if you sniffle a little they won't hear you. If anybody knows you are crying, they'll start talking about it, and soon it will be your turn to get beat up when the lights go out."
And the rest is like this :
FADE IN: INTERIOR: Early morning in CELL BLOCK D, MANHATTAN DETENTION CENTER. Camera goes slowly down grim, gray corridor. There are sounds of inmates yelling from cell to cell; much of it is obscene. Most of the voices are clearly Black or Hispanic. Camera stops and turns toward a cell.
I really like Steve, mostly because all the other characters are mean, but also, he is just a really great character. By the end of the book, I was really convinced that Steve had nothing to do with it, but everyone feels different about different things.
I can't think of anything else to write, so bye!
